Chapter A: Accept the Things You Cannot Change – Starting with Him

Divorce has a way of revealing truths you never asked to learn. You may walk into the process hoping for civility, cooperation, or even simple human decency — but you cannot control how your spouse responds. Some men withdraw. Some become dismissive. And some turn vicious, revealing a version of themselves you never knew existed in all your years of marriage.

It’s one of the hardest lessons of late‑life divorce: You cannot control the way someone else chooses to behave.

You can’t control whether he communicates. You can’t control whether he fights instead of mediates. You can’t control whether he cuts you off financially or emotionally. You can’t control whether his family suddenly treats you like a stranger.

But you can control your response.

You can take right action. You can do the work. You can stay grounded in your integrity. You can choose courage over chaos. You can keep moving forward even when the path feels unfair or unfamiliar.

“Accept the things you cannot change, the courage to change the things you can and the wisdom to know the difference”

What courageous move have you made? Share it – Your story might be exactly what another woman needs to read today.
